Took a ride down to the Hanson area with hopes of finding a new spot or two on my day off yesterday. Knew there was rain coming, so I went prepared.

First I stopped at Oldham Pond and fished the boat ramp there for about 30 minutes. It was ridiculously windy, choppy and couldn't do much from that spot. Didn't get any bites at all and then it started raining. I packed up and took a drive around looking for somewhere else (thank god for GPS).

I ended up, after some off roading in the Jeep, settling on a spot on the dirt road part of Ridge Ave at what turned out to be Great Sandy Bottom Pond. I walked down the path marked by stones on the side of the road and found plenty of shore area to fish. It looked like the water level was really low. Fished through the rain for about an hour and a half.

Pulled out a couple small LMB's, 2 pickerel and a good sized perch. Not a terrible day, and looks like I found a new spot. I don't think I can fit the boat down that path, I'll have to do some more research to see if there's a better launch area for this pond.

No pictures today, sorry. It was too rainy and I was alone. Nothing really worthy of a picture anyways, but it was still a good day.

Took the boat out on Canton Res with my fishing buddy, windy day warm and sunny. After reading several articles about jigs, figured I'd give them another shot. I've never caught a fish on one. Bought a few at Bass Pro the night before. Tied on a 1/4oz brown Strike King football jig with craw trailer, 20 minutes in got my first fish on a jig ever, a 2.75lb largemouth fighting through the grass. The grass was plentiful, and the fish put up a great fight. That got me hooked on the jig. Fished it for most of the afternoon, got some solid hits, but I have to work on my hookset with this new lure. Seems they hit right on the fall which for me is tough to detect.

The rest of the day was OK, I switched to YUM swimming shads and pulled in a 1.25 lb's and a small Perch. My buddy got a baby bass and a pretty good sized pickerel. It was a so so day on the Res, but to me it was great since I got my first jig fish and realized how fun this lure is to fish.

Went out yesterday afternoon on the Canton Res with my cousin. Boat hit the water around 2pm, launched from the wall. The first hour or so I pulled in a 1.5lb largemouth and a decent sized pickerel right where the water is running in to be drained. We turned the corner and anchored in between the rocks on the point and the first dock.

There we got a few good hits but weren't catching much. We were using mostly PowerBait and Senkos. I was pitching a few spinners and jigs in between (no idea where all the weeds went but that's fine with me) not having much luck. Then my cousin casted a dark watermelon Senko out there and let it sink and sit. After about a minute, he went to bring it in and bam it got hit hard, a minute later it jumped and we saw it was a big boy. He landed it, weighed in at just under 6lbs. Not 5 minutes later, same area, I tossed a darker Senko and used the same technique, let it sit for a minute. BAM landed myself another jumping 5lb'r. We worked that spot for another 45 minutes or so without much luck. We moved back to our first area, he landed a 1lb bass and a decent pickerel before we left around 6pm.

I have been here a few times, and I always heard there are big bass in here, but never caught anything over 2lbs. This was the best fish I've landed all year and man once they jump it really gets me fired up.

It was a WINDY day on the pond, the water was real dark, and the vegetation was pretty low which surprised me after our last few trips. All in all a great trip look forward to getting back out there.

Pics are on the phone, i'll try to post them.

Went out on Harrison's in the boat with Wood, using rubber worms and trying out the new "Gulp" baits from Berkley. I hauled in 13 fish in just under 4 hours. 4 Largemouth's 4 Crappie 5 Pickerel. Wood brought in 6 more fish. It was our best day out there yet this year. It wasn't too windy, we mostly drifted around the coastline and worked rubber worms around the pads. A LOT of hits near the end of the day after 6:30.
